Know the Eligibility for KVPY
Every year, KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsaha Yojana) exam is conducted by IISc, Bangalore. The aim of KVPY is to encourage students to take up research careers in basic sciences. The exam is highly competitive since a large number of students apply for this exam. Checking the eligibility criteria is highly recommended to candidates to avoid rejection of their applications.
Eligibility criteria are published on the official website by IISc. Students can check their KVPY eligibility by visiting the site http://www.kvpy.iisc.ernet.in/main/eligibility.htm. The scholarships are only given to students who do their higher studies in India. The applications of students who are doing their undergraduate course through distance education, or correspondence courses, will be rejected. Because of the pandemic situation, a few changes were introduced in the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Criteria for SA Stream
Those who have passed the 10th grade Board Examination and are ready to enroll in 11th grade (Science subjects) for the year 2021-22 are permitted to appear for the test. The students selected under the SA stream will receive the scholarship only if they join a UG course in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.) in the academic year 2023-24. Also, they should score a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in Science and Maths subjects in the 12th grade Board Exam. For SC/ST/PWD candidates, 50% marks are required as per the KVPY eligibility criteria.
Eligibility Criteria for SX Stream
Candidates enrolled in 12th grade Science subjects for the year 2021-22 and who wish to join UG courses in Basic Sciences during the year 2022-23, are eligible to take the test.
Eligibility Criteria for SB Stream
Those who have passed the 12th grade Board Examination and are eligible to enroll in the 1st year Basic Science courses during the academic year 2021-22 are eligible to appear for the SB stream. A study certificate of 1st year B.Sc./M.Sc should be produced, once they are selected as a provisional KVPY fellow.
KVPY Syllabus
There is no prescribed syllabus for the aptitude test. To clear the aptitude test, students should learn the syllabus of the class they are studying in. The exam is conducted for SA, SX, and SB streams. For the SA stream, the KVPY syllabus includes Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics from Class 10 and Class 11 syllabus. Alternating current, kinematics, electrostatics, magnetic effects of current, current electricity, electromagnetic induction, etc., are some of the important topics in Physics. Calculus, polynomials, probability, coordinate geometry, trigonometric functions, quadratic equations, statistics, relations, functions, etc., are some of the important topics in Mathematics.
Chemical bonding, electrochemistry, atomic structure, kinetics, ethers, qualitative analysis, etc., are some of the important topics in Chemistry. Students are recommended to go through the previous years’ question papers so that they can have a proper understanding of the exam pattern and difficulty levels of the exam. Through proper preparation and hard work, one can easily crack the KVPY exam.
